This is an oil painting on canvas entitled “Deep Pacific” circa 1940 by foremost nautical painters of the 20th century, Montague Dawson. This is a gold leaf framed oil painting on canvas techniques with frame measuring 43” in width x 31” in height x 1.75” in thick while the painting itself measures 36” x 24”. This was signed by Dawson visible on the lower side of the painting.

Dawson was born on September 19, 1890 in London, England and although he has no formal training in art as a child, he began to draw and developed his illustration skills at a commercial art studio in 1910. His dedication to systematic technical accuracy and very realistic style of maritime painting has made him a particularly popular seascape artist. His works can be found in the collections of the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth and the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England. He died on May 21, 1973 in Midhurst, England at the age of 83.
